Dear DJC Members:

Welcome to another New Year at the Danforth Jewish Circle!

On behalf of the DJC Board of Directors, I want to extend a warm welcome to all of our new members and to those who have already experienced our wonderful High Holiday services. This year, I am thrilled to welcome back Rabbi Miriam Margles to lead our services. Rabbi Miriam will be joined by our magnificent cantor, Lisa Kent, and her choir, who will once again lend their beautiful voices to our services.

The DJC's High Holiday services reflect our Judaism and our community – rooted in tradition yet embracing change.  This year's services will, once again, be true to that vision, blending both familiar and new rituals, prayers, stories and songs.  There will be opportunities for study, contemplation, and connection with your community. I hope that you'll be joining us this year too – in celebration, prayer and reflection – as part of our warm, welcoming and wonderfully unique DJC community.

I wish you all a wonderful summer – and a very happy and healthy New Year – L'shanah tovah!

Warmly,
Josie Lalonde
Chair, DJC Board of Directors

HELP WIDEN THE CIRCLE!

WorldThe Danforth Jewish Circle has grown remarkably over the past 14 years, establishing itself as an open, progressive venue for Jewish culture and life in Toronto. We have evolved into a warm and welcoming community - one for which membership offers a rich and varied program of events. Your membership allows the DJC to provide enriching High Holiday services, a vibrant Jewish School, and inspirational B'nei Mitzvah celebrations. In between, we offer monthly Sabbath services, support during life cycle events, and an array of social events and gatherings that bring us together and foster our sense of community and belonging.

In order for us to hold our fees at current levels and preserve our programs, we need to increase our membership base. We need to WIDEN our CIRCLE! So we are reaching out to you – our current members – and asking you to join together as a community and help make that happen. Please think of someone – a friend, extended family member, colleague – whom you think would benefit from joining our unique and diverse congregation. Think seriously of people you believe would enjoy being members of the DJC, and bring an individual, or a family, to one High Holiday service – for free! We are confident that once they partake in one of our services led by our wonderful new Rabbi, Miriam Margles, they will appreciate the importance and value of the DJC, and consider joining the circle.

Please help build our DJC community; widen our circle; and increase our membership base. Bring a potential member to a High Holiday service for free!

*To register your guest(s) for one cost-free service*:

E-mail their names, contact numbers, and which service they plan to attend, to our (secure) email address: info@djctoronto.com Deadline for registering guests for Rosh Hashana or Yom Kippur services (evening or day) is September 16.

Thanks!

Your Recruitment and Marketing Committee: Paul Axelrod, Karen Bernstein, Karen Robbins & Susie Waldman

DJC LIFE CYCLE EVENTS UPDATE: SURVEY

Dear DJCers

Hope everyone is having a great summer. The Life Cycle Events Committee is very grateful to all of you who participated in the survey in June. We had a fantastic response; very reflective of the care and genuine desire we have, as a community, to help everyone navigate Jewish waters in a supportive and inclusive way.

Our purpose with the survey is to put together some sort of resource, be it in print, on-line, or both, where young and/or interfaith families can find information, resource people and support for the decisions that they need to make and the experiences they are having within a Jewish context.

We are very excited by the possibilities that this resource has to be of great use to our community and potentially the same population in other communities as well.

Please continue to support this unique DJC initiative in one of the following easy-as-pie ways….

  1. If you haven't taken the survey yet, use this link and go for it. It takes 10 minutes and is more fun than you can possibly imagine!
    http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/WKJZHRP

  2. If you are open to talking to someone from the Life Cycle Events Committee on your experience as a young and/or interfaith family, we would be very interested in hearing your stories so that we can include some of them in the resource as inspiration and education for others (anonymous is fine) Please email Kathy and let her know info@djctoronto.com

  3. If you took the survey and told us that you were happy to speak to us, please email Kathy and let her know as we didn't get contact info from many of you.

  4. If you are at all interested in exploring the possibility of a DJC support group for young and/or interfaith families, please email Kathy with your interest and we can craft it so that it works for everyone.

  5. If you are interested in helping the committee to contact leads and put together the resource, even ½ hour would be great, email…you guessed it… Kathy….and let us know.

That's it for now. Stay tuned for an update at High Holidays.

As the summer cycles down and the fall cycles up, warmest wishes from the Life Cycle Events Committee and a heartfelt THANKS for your help.
