Danforth Jewish Circle PAYMENT POLICY
(Updated as of June, 2011)
In light of the fact that:
- The DJC is a non-profit faith organization;
- Your membership fee allows the DJC to offer many diverse programs such as:
- Phenomenal High Holiday services
- Vibrant children's Jewish studies program, B'nei Mitzvah program and youth group
- Monthly Shabbat services
- Support during life cycle events
- Social events and gatherings
- Warm, welcoming community
- The DJC has a significant deficit (projected at $28K for 2011);
- The DJC Board has developed a 3-year plan to eliminate the deficit;
- Part of the plan is to tighten controls around our finances;
- We are committed to being fiscally responsible while ensuring that we continue to nurture our wonderful community and programming;
- While we will not turn anyone away for financial reasons, it is our responsibility to balance individuals' needs with those of the community;
The DJC Board of Directors have created the following policy:
Re: Membership Fees
- Payment is expected in full in advance of the High Holidays or at the door at services.
- The standard installment payment arrangement is 5 equal monthly installments between August and December.
- Alternate arrangements for payment of membership fees may be requested in advance of the High Holidays by contacting the DJC administrator. Requests are confidential.
- People who are unable to manage 5 monthly installments of the full membership fee may contact the DJC administrator to propose an alternate payment option, setting out their circumstance and how they propose to contribute. For instance, if they are unable to pay the full fee, they may wish to pay a partial fee and contribute further to the DJC by volunteering their time.
- The DJC Board will set an expected deadline by which people may request alternate payment arrangements (2011: September 12).
- Alternate arrangements will not be negotiated during Rosh Hashanah or Yom Kippur.
During the High Holidays
- The DJC will have a designated person to manage Alternative Payment Plan requests at the door during the High Holidays
- People requesting alternate options will be given a copy of the above policy
- Payment options at the door will be:
- Payment for Full membership (either full payment or 5 installments option)
- Payment for single service ticket (either full payment or 5 installments option)
- No payment that day, with the individual receiving a ticket for the day after giving their full contact information. In this case, they will be advised to contact the DJC administrator at their earliest convenience to propose an alternate payment plan (see policy paragraphs 3 and 4 above). If we do not hear from them, a Board member will be in touch with them.
Re: Jewish Studies and B'nei Mitzvah Programs
- Payment is expected to be made in accordance with the time frames set out in the application forms for the Jewish Studies and B'nei Mitzvah programs, which include the option of payment in full or installment payments.
- People who are unable to manage the monthly installments set out in the application form may contact the DJC administrator to propose an alternate payment option, setting out their circumstance and how they propose to contribute. For instance, they may wish to propose a longer payment schedule, or if they are unable to pay the full fee, they may wish to pay a partial fee and contribute further to the DJC by volunteering their time.
- Requests for alternate payment arrangements are expected at least 2 weeks in advance of registration deadlines designated for each program.
