30 Years of Belonging: Celebrating Our Shared Home

The DJC is marking a major milestone: three decades of community, connection, and growth. To celebrate, this fall we are launching "30 Years of Belonging" with special events planned throughout the entire year.
Belonging is a shared experience. At the DJC, the relationship is mutual: we belong to this community, and in turn, this community belongs to us. It is our collective spiritual, cultural, and social home. It is a source of comfort, learning, and enables rich connections with friends and neighbours.
Throughout the year, please watch for events reminding us of the special community we have built together —the moments we've spent breaking bread, praying, singing, and simply being present with one another.
Our community is defined by the depth of its values. Whether it is our commitment to ensuring LGBTQ2+ members are an integral part of our fabric, the full inclusion of interfaith couples and families, the incorporation of people of colour, the striving to incorporate rituals and songs from a variety of Jewish traditions, our thought-provoking adult education, the vibrant energy brought by our school and Bet Mitzvah programs, the warmth of our services, or our commitment to progressive social justice, the DJC is a place where we grow together.
We are a community that chooses to engage with issues that, sadly, can divide Jewish communities — for example, the welcoming of non-Jews on the bimah and the challenges of Israel and Palestine dialogue. The DJC will keep creating spaces where differences of opinion and conviction are acknowledged, respected, in the hope that they enrich us rather than divide us.
If you're looking for a community that seeks to do the hard work of building bridges—one where people can stay in a relationship even when they disagree—you belong at the DJC and the DJC belongs to you.
We invite you to dive into our "30 Years of Belonging" celebrations which we will announce in our newsletters and from the bima. Please come celebrate throughout the year what the DJC has been to you and help us build a vibrant community for the next 30 Years of Belonging.
