Embracing the DJC

The last month has been nothing short of extraordinary in the life of the DJC.  It’s been a time when our vibrancy and growth has never been more apparent, and when the warmth and closeness of this community has been palpable:  at Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur, when the beauty of the services was matched only by the breadth and variety of other programs; in our community sukkah (thanks for hosting, Rex Hagon!) where we prayed, played, and schmoozed with members of other faiths at the Multi-Faith Committee’s “Chew on This”; to our first ever jubilant and joyous Simchat Torah with a full klezmer orchestra of community members.

If you’ve only interacted with the DJC once or twice a year in the past, we encourage you to dip another toe in this November.  It’s the benefit of membership!  In the next month alone, we have a pre-schooler Shabbat, a Youngish & Jewish Trivia Night, two different adult education series (Torah for the 21st Century and Jewish Social Movements), the first Shabbat UnService of 5777, and much, much more.

At the High Holy Days, we talked about how the DJC’s staffing and infrastructure isn’t keeping up with our growth.  In the first half of October, more than 25 donors contributed more than $13,000 — a generous response, and one that we hope will continue to build!  A number of you have come forward with great ideas, ranging from how we fundraise to how we structure fees, which we’re excited to consider.  We remain humbled and grateful to all who give their time, money, and energy to enriching the DJC.  If you haven’t already, we hope you’ll donate.
