Here’s to Freedom

As we approach Passover this year, the DJC’s role as a force for expression, engagement, freedom, and inclusivity has never felt more crucial.

As so much of the world closes its doors, our Social Justice committee has at last welcomed the Syrian refugee family of seven whose arrival DJC volunteers have been preparing for for 18 months. (Stay up to date on the family and how you can help.)

As bursts of anti-Semitism and Islamophobia highlight divisions, we are moving forward with officiating interfaith weddings.

As some communities turn inward, our Member Engagement Committee held a joyous Jewish Folk Dancing event that attracted members from multiple downtown shuls to dance together.

As the world gets serious, our Vampy Campy Purim celebration found wisdom in the absurdity of history and our time.

This Passover, we are all blessed to be part of a community that opens its arm, embraces the challenges of the moment, and shares the love.  May we continue to flourish and help those who need our energy, art, and skill to find their own freedom.
