DJC Teens Learn About Fighting Hunger & Youth Social Justice

On a Friday in June, the DJC teen group had a lovely shabbat dinner with a great guest speaker. Teens everywhere from Grade 8 to Grade 12 joined in to light the candles, do kiddush, eat challah, and discuss topics that are important to them. We were joined by Mira Lyonblum to discuss her amazing work as the National Programs Manager at the international NGO Action Against Hunger Canada. Mira is a passionate activist who works tirelessly at grassroots levels to eliminate the root causes of hunger and malnutrition in over 50 countries around the world. She spoke to our group about the youth social justice work she does: going into schools around the province running programs to teach the students about sustainable agriculture, and bringing them mobile gardens to grow their own food! She has run these programs in communities everywhere from downtown Toronto to remote fly in communities in Northern Ontario. We had a lovely evening catching up and learning, and hope to see more teens at events like this next year!
