Moving From the High Holy Days Into a Year of Chesed
Reflecting on our recent High Holy Days, my heart is incredibly full.
Throughout Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur, every corner of our building was alive with the vibrant energy of prayer, deep learning, joyful singing, and the simple, profound comfort of being together. From the energy of our family services and the resonant communal prayers in our Sanctuary, to the quiet magic of the Rosh Hashanah dawn service, our Yom Kippur afternoon learning sessions, and the final, stirring notes of Ne’ilah, we wove a beautiful tapestry of community and sacred connection.
During Yom Kippur, some of you found deep solace with me in our Healing Sit session. Because so many people requested the music from that powerful space, I am glad to share this playlist so you can bring those melodies of comfort and restoration into your daily life. https://open.spotify.com/playlist/4C1JRoGCgebQ8bSqTer2Mk?si=pRJm3az2Q02GtGh3VZ7twg
As we step away from the intensity of the holidays, the big question before us is pragmatic: How do we carry this sacred energy forward? How do we continue to show real care for one another and live out the qualities of compassion and reflection we worked so hard to cultivate over the High Holy Days throughout the rest of the year?
One of the most powerful ways we do this at the DJC is through our Chesed Circle of Care. Driven by the Jewish value of chesed (loving-kindness), this initiative ensures we actively show up for one another during life's most significant moments. Our Circle of Care provides practical, hands-on support to members navigating major life transitions. Whether you are welcoming a new child, mourning the loss of a loved one, or managing a difficult health crisis, your community is here to hold you. You can easily request support by reaching out confidentially to our care team, and we will work with you to coordinate the meals, check-ins, or practical help you need.
A circle stays strongest when the people forming it hold hands. I invite you to reach out and be a part of this vital work. If you can cook a meal, drive a member to an appointment, or offer a friendly phone call, please sign up to support your community by emailing us at info@djctoronto.com.
By showing up for one another in these everyday acts of loving-kindness, we can and will keep the spirit of our High Holy Days alive year-round. May we continue to build a community where everyone is seen, held, and deeply cared for.
