One Year Commemoration of the Tragic Shootings on the Danforth

The DJC Multifaith Committee has been involved in a community-wide planning effort to commemorate the tragic shootings on the Danforth last year on July 21st. Two events are being planned and DJC members and friends are encouraged to attend to show your support to the families, victims and emergency support workers who were deeply affected by this tragedy. This happened in our community and the healing has been ongoing for many. Join in to show your support for “Danforth Strong“!

EVENT # 1Sunday, July 21st 1:30 p.m. in Withrow Park (NE corner).

A solemn commemorative ceremony will take place at 1:30 p.m. in Withrow Park (NE) corner.- a Multifaith Choirwill perform and there will be a Moment of Silence for the two deceased as well as a commemoration for the return to health of the survivors and families as well as all those in the community affected in this incident. EVENT # 2 – Monday, July 22nd at Dusk (8:51 p.m.) at Danforth & Logan

A Community Vigil will also occur the following evening at dusk at the intersection of Danforth and Logan avenues. The City of Toronto will be creating a safe space for those who wish to gather with candles and flowers in Alexander the Great Parkette for a brief ceremony of commemoration which will include the Choir, ringing of bells in memoriam and a moment of silence.
