Your support is needed!

Every year at the time of the high holidays, the DJC launches a food drive to support the Bethany Church Food Bank in our Riverdale ‘neck of the woods’. Before services, we come to Eastminster bearing food offerings and place them in the bins set out in the front lobby so these donations can be delivered to the food bank, not long after the last shofar blast at our concluding Ne’ilah service.

This year is once again different… we will gather safely in our homes to participate in our services online over Zoom, and will take our food bank drive online and off-site. These Covid-19 times have made everyone more aware of the great need to support Canada’s food banks in our cities, towns and neighbourhoods. Bethany Food Bank is currently serving approximately 220 households (approximately triple the number of households they had pre-Covid).

This year we encourage all DJC members who can to donate online to the Bethany Church Food Bank (instructions are below). Food can also be dropped off at 56 Keystone Avenue, or at the food bank (corner of Pape/Cosburn only on Thursdays between 10-3). Items that are particularly needed are: tuna and other canned protein, pasta, sauce, size 6 baby diapers, size L adult diapers, and toothpaste. The food bank is not currently in need of baby food.

Here’s how your donation can make a difference:

To sponsor a week of soup: $100 To sponsor a week of pasta or eggs: $200 To sponsor a week of adult diapers: $200 To sponsor a week of soap: $220 To sponsor a week of baby diapers: $240 To sponsor a week of toothpaste: $300

All donations are welcome, regardless of amount!

Please help to ensure this year we are thinking of those who regularly go without and rely on the support of their local food bank(s). And thank you in advance for your generosity!
