A Jewish Studies Year in Review, by our Principal Alysse
It has been another fabulous year for our Jewish Studies program! We wrapped up our weekly Jewish Studies classes in early May, followed by a DJC shabbat morning service that our students helped to lead. This was an exciting year – one that included not only the mix of arts and social justice programming through a Jewish lens that our program is known for, but in addition, this year included….
-Our first experience of teaching written Hebrew with workbooks (grade 3-6)
-An exciting presentation for grades 5 and 6 families by Emil Sher about his work adapting Hana’s Suitcase into a play
-Two brand new ‘tikkun olam (repairing the world) days’ – one devoted to environmentalism, and one in which we baked for Out of the Cold
-Two classes of B’nei Mitzvah students with a record number of 19 students becoming Bat/Bar Mitzvah through our group program!
And as usual, we have even bigger plans for next year! We would like to extend our thanks to all of the teachers, teaching assistants, staff, and families (you!) that make our program happen.
