Reflection on the DJC Rosh Hashanah Dawn Service

On the first morning of Rosh Hashanah at 6:30 AM, 28 DJC members attended the sunrise service at the Brickworks. This was a record for attendance at this service, which often has barely had a minyan. Clearly, we have been starved for personal interactions. It was a beautiful morning in an idyllic setting. Emil Sher led a thoughtful, heartfelt service in which people were able to share thoughts about such topics as gratitude and praise. Hilla Keren shared a lovely rendition of “L’Chol Ish Yesh Shem” and Xiaowei Su read an original poem she’d written about love. What a treat for all of us there! It was a wonderful beginning to the New Year! Here’s hoping that next year we’ll have even more people come to be part of this precious ritual. Shana tova to all! –Alan Gotlib
